Mineral Wells TX, State Park is located about 15 minutes west of downtown Weatherford Texas, and just around the bend from Clark Gardens.
Near the beach, there is a boat ramp and grocery store, where you can also rent canoes and paddleboats.
Bring your fishing pole, and stay for a spell; there are many fish to catch. Some species you can expect to find are Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Sunfish, and Crappie.
You would never know it, but there is a large cavern with sheer cliffs right off the shore of the lake. This spot is very popular with rock climbers, and even if you aren’t that daring, it is fun to watch them from the lookout points.
Of course, you can get a close up view by taking a steep rock staircase down into the ravine, which the locals call “The Hallow.” Once there, you can explore the many narrow passageways, or follow the hiking trail around the lake.
This park is also a stop on the Mineral Wells TX Trailway. This 20 mile hiking, biking, and equestrian trail was once the route of the train that ran from Weatherford to Mineral Wells. The train track was shut down in 1992, and was overhauled and reopened in 1998 as a beautiful trailway complete with 16 bridges!
Another great attraction is the outdoor amphitheater, where they hold events each weekend that are free with admission to the park.
Enjoy a cowboy campfire, or take a night hike and listen for owl sounds. Check the
calendar of events to see what’s on the schedule.
