The York Ave Shops, located just one block from the Courthouse, are on the NW side of the Weatherford Town Square. This is a “must see” for visitors, and a special spot for the locals.

The best thing about shopping on York Ave is the knowledge that you are buying something unique that you can’t find in the department stores. After all, where else can you buy a one-of-a-kind, hand tooled, leather wedding dress?

Each store has its own theme, and own distinct charm, but the one thing that ties them all together is their overwhelming Texas hospitality.

On a recent trip to the York Ave shops, we found an amazing assortment of sweet smelling candles, all hand poured by one merchant’s 82 year old grandmother.

But don’t think shopping on York Ave is just for women. There are plenty of masculine items on display as well, including hand-tooled leather saddles, belts, antique comic books and collectibles.

Once a month, the merchants of York Ave hold a special event called “Girls’ Night Out.” During this time, the shops are open from 5 to 9 pm, and each shop provides a free sampling of food and drinks for their visitors.

This is not your “grocery store” box of cookies either. On our recent visit, we found homemade brownies, cookies & pie, champagne punch, ice cream, and wonderful fruity iced teas. The merchants really go all out for these events. You can tell they want to make their shoppers feel special, and they do a great job of it.

This is a perfect night to take an evening stroll, window shop, and maybe pick up a few gifts for those special people on your Christmas list. Girls’ Night Out is held on the first Thursday of every month, and each month is a different theme.
