Outdoor Activities Soldier Springs Park
Soldier Springs Park offers great paved trails for many outdoor activities such as short hiking, jogging, and biking trips. This is a great place for a family bike ride.
Our children LOVE this park because there is so many things you can do there! Bring the scooters and skateboards along.
Twists & turns and little hills on the trail make it a great place for the family to get out and exercise.
Even if you are not into mountain biking, it's still fun to just stop and watch as the teens & tweens tackle the jumps and try new stunts.
This park is heavily treed and full of wildlife, so be on the look out for squirrels, butterflies, and cardinals.
There are also many low limbed trees for for your own little "monkey" to climb!
Off the side of the bike trail there is a large area that is popular for mountain biking, including a natural “bowl” for jumps & tricks.
There are also hiking trails that lead off the beaten path. Fossils can be seen imbedded in the rocks, and there is a historical marker at the bottom of the path near the spring noting that Confederate soldiers once camped here, hence the name
This park also offers a tennis court, baseball fields, and a playground.
It also has one of the only 'merry-go-rounds" left in Weatherford, which the children just love.
Surprisingly enough, most of the time the playground is empty, and you will only meet a few people on the trails.
During the summer and fall months, you will see more people in the dirt bike area, but for the most part, it’s a quiet park.
It's also a great place to play tennis, since there is hardly ever anyone on the courts.
Directions: Soldier Springs Park is located on the SW side of town and accessible from 2 locations.
961 Charles Street From Weatherford Town Square, go west on Palo Pinto Highway until you reach S. Bowie. Make a Left on S. Bowie and follow it up a few blocks, make a Left on Longhorn, and a left on Charles. The first entrance, left of the baseball fields, has playground equipment. If you walk straight back on the road you will find the first walking path. Watch your step, it's a steep hill!
200 Thrush Street: The second entrance can be found by following S. Bowie, until you reach Mockingbird. Make a left on Mockingbird and then another left on Thrush Ave. You will find trails and parking on both sides of the street.
